Sense of the Senate Resolution: Use Of Assigned Time To Enhance Faculty Governance

USE OF ASSIGNED TIME TO ENHANCE FACULTY GOVERNANCE

It is the Sense of the Senate that in allocating faculty resources, a liberal and creative use of assigned time shall be made by all departments and schools in order to compensate faculty who are chosen to play leadership roles in Faculty Governance.

It is the Sense of the Senate that in so utilizing assigned time to equalize the burden on faculty who participate in University Governance, no department or school may be penalized at budget or faculty allocation time for such use of faculty resources.

This Sense of the Senate Resolution and the following rationale shall be sent to all faculty, department chairs and school deans.

Resolved: The Academic Senate will not approve any program or curricular change is that based upon the premise that faculty members will "voluntarily" carry an overload of the normal work assignment in order to provide the human resources necessary to implement that program or curricular change.
