The Sonoma State University Academic Senate encourages all faculty to participate in the scholarly, creative and ceremonial activities of President Judy Sakaki’s Investiture and to consider including the day’s activities and presentations as part of their classroom instruction on April 20th.
Rationale:
President Sakaki, in the selection of themes upon which the Investiture day will focus, has demonstrated a commitment to collaborative work with the campus community on our core academic missions, with particular focus on the four key issues that have emerged in our prior planning processes and that will be highlighted during the ceremony, conference and related activities: Diversity, Civic Engagement, Globalization and Sustainability.
President Sakaki, in her recent public communications, has demonstrated strong leadership and a commitment to diversity by publically proclaiming that no walls shall divide the communities of our campus, and by affirming that “diversity and inclusion are vibrant parts of” of what Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. called “our single garment of destiny.”
The official investiture ceremony provides an opportunity for the entire campus community to congratulate President Sakaki and to celebrate her assumption of the presidency of our campus.
