Whereas, Sonoma State University regularly confers upon faculty members who have retired with at least ten years of service the title Professor Emeritus, and;
Whereas, the title of Professor Emeritus implies continuing membership in the Sonoma State University community, and;
Whereas, Sonoma State University Policy of issue date 10-8-04 directs that “Emeriti(ae) shall continue to enjoy, as statutory regulation and institutional resources permit, the professional privileges of faculty”;
Whereas, Professors Emerit(ae), singly and collectively, are a valuable resource to the University as a source of experience, institutional memory, and collegial consultation, and;
Therefore, be it resolved that the Sonoma State Academic Senate reaffirms the membership of its professor Emeriti(ae) in the Sonoma State University community, and;
Be it further resolved that the Academic Senate encourages the participation of Professors Emeriti(ae) in the life of Sonoma State University, and;
Be it further resolved that the Academic Senate affirms the standing of Sonoma State University Professors Emeriti(ae) to present letters, petitions, and other communications to the Academic Senate on matters relating to the jurisdiction of the Senate.
