Opposition to Faculty Salary Schedule

Resolution in Opposition to the Revised Faculty Salary Schedule for the CSUC

Whereas, The Academic Senate of Sonoma State University has reviewed the "Proposal for A Revised Faculty Salary Schedule for the CSUC" submitted to the Trustees as Agenda Item 2, September 23-24, 1980; and

Whereas, The Academic Senate finds the entire proposal to be inequitable, arbitrary, punitive, and without merit; now therefore be it 

Resolved, That the Academic.Senate of Sonoma State University is opposed to: 

  • Overlapping salary steps. 
  • Merit review for annual salary increments within rank. 
  • The proposed decrease from 5% to 2 1/2% differential between steps within rank. 
  • Variable annual step increases. 
  • Use of additional steps and merit increases to provide differential salaries. 
  • The addition of six steps in the ranks of assistant professor, associate professor and professor.
  • The three additional steps above the fifteenth step of professor for distinguished professors as determined by the President. 
  • Implementation of the proposal without any net increase in salary funding; and be it further

Resolved, that the Academic senate of Sonoma State University endorses the analysis of Professor Philip Beard contained in his memo of September 29, 1980 on the "Revised Faculty Salary Schedule for the CSUC" and appends it to this statement of the Senate (not available in 2022) for transmission to the Academic Senate of the CSUC in response to the request made by Robert Kully, Chair, in his memorandum of September 25, 1980.
